The Cost of Living Crisis is one of the most important issues for families nationally. We all know that Bothwell is an affluent village. That’s why it would be easy to overlook people in the area who are struggling financially.
I was pleased to help organise a Cost of Living information event this week with my council colleagues, Stephanie Callaghan MSP, Angela Crawley MP, Bothwell Futures, Bothwell Parish Church and St Bride’s Church.
It was great to see the two churches, community groups and local businesses come together to ensure local residents have the advice they need to make it through this cost of living crisis. It was also brilliant to see so many kids having fun.
It took place on Monday between noon and 3pm at St Bride’s Church Hall, Fallside Road and support organisations present included:
- Citizens Advice Scotland
- Home Energy Scotland
- Social Security Scotland
- NHS Lanarkshire
- Men Matter Scotland
- Scottish Association for Mental Health (SAMH)
- and others
Fun activities included:
- Music
- A bouncy castle
- Face painting
- An ice cream cart
- Candy floss
- Other food and refreshments
We are very grateful to Baba’s Kitchen, Tunnock’s, Equi’s and our local Tesco, M&S, and Co-Op; who have all gotten behind us and supported us with supplies for the day.
It was also great to see the event get some press in the Hamilton Advertiser and the Daily Record website:
